6. Start an oval
If a pattern instructs you to turn your foundation chain and crochet on the other side, this means you will be creating an oval.
1. Create a foundation chain by crocheting the specified number of chains as indicated in the pattern.
2. Follow the pattern's instructions for the next row. Remember that the first sc goes under the back loop of the second ch from the hook, and that all stitches in a fo- undation chain go through the back loops only.
3. At some point, the pattern may instruct you to crochet several st- itches into the last stitch of the foundation chain and then turn your work over to the other side of the chain. To do so, rotate the piece clockwise until the opposite side of the foundation chain is facing upwards.
4. Continue crocheting the rema- ining stitches of the round under the unused front loops of the foundation chain.
